Making a difference

Since we started fundraising in early 2006 we never imagined how much money we would have raised in less than four years. As of September 2009 we have managed to raise over £30000 for Fergus' Angel Fund and his fund at Addenbrooke's Hospital. Thank you to everybody who has donated or taken part in a fundraising event - it really has been astounding how much time, effort and money people have invested.

Forthcoming events

September/October 2009
The Berlin Challenge - Steve, Bruce and Andy are cycling from Cambridge to Berlin and back. They set off on September 19th and hopefully return on October 9th. They are going to Berlin because this is the place where most SMARD research in the world is happening and it is also the place where the gene fault for SMARD was discovered in 1999 - a massive breakthrough for those families affected by SMARD. SMARD research is also currently happening in Cologne hence its inclusion in their itinerary. Here's a link to Steve's Justgiving site: Click here

Recent events

September 2009
Womens 5K Challenge - Steve's sister-in-law, Helen, ran the Womens 5K around Hyde Park on September 6th raising money for Fergus' Angel Fund. She was joined by her daughter Hannah, and Angela took part as well. Helen and Angela managed to run round in a very respectable time of 34:29. Hannah sprinted the last bit and finished it in 33 mins. Final total still to be announced.

June 2009
Wicklow 200 - Back in June, Steve and Angela's mate Simon Hyde decided to drag himself over the Wicklow mountains for 200 km. Simon trained really hard for this but unfortunately he lives out in Holland where there ain't many hills... but he lived in hope that the incessant Dutch wind would simulate the resistance of climbing the mountains to some degree. Going by the state of Simon and his brother David at the end, I don't think they did. The weather was grim and the wind was cruelly against them on all the serious inclines. But it was well worth it. Simon managed to raise the mighty sum of £2265 - thank you to Simon and everyone who sponsored him.
